How Fridge Seals Work (And Why They Matter)

Fridge and freezer seals are made from flexible PVC and contain a magnetic strip that helps the door close firmly, joined at the corners to form a rectangle. They might seem simple, but they play a crucial role - keeping cold air in, warm air out, and your food at a safe, consistent temperature. 


Domestic fridge seals can attach in a number of ways; most commonly they simply push in, but some models use screws (flap-type seals) or by pushing into a groove with a bead-like clip (bead). Over time, seals can wear out, crack, go brittle, or grow mould, and that’s when it’s time to replace them.

How to Identify the Right Seal

Not sure which seal you need? Don’t worry - we can help. To match or recreate the correct seal for your fridge or freezer, we’ll usually ask for one (or more) of the following:

• Make and model  of the fridge or freezer (often found inside on a small metal compliance plate)

• Measurements of the seal - taken from the outer edge to the outer edge

• A clear photo or cross-section of the existing seal

• Or a cut sample dropped off/posted to our Kelvin Grove Store

FAQs – Domestic Seals

  • How do I know if my seal needs replacing?

    Signs your seal may need replacing include visible mould, cracks, or brittleness; food spoiling faster than usual; the motor running more than normal; or an excessive buildup of moisture or ice. If the door won’t stay closed, it could be the seal - but it might also be a hinge or alignment issue. We can help you figure it out.

  • Can I install the seal myself?

    Yes! Our domestic seals are easy to install with basic tools. Instructions are available on our site, or we can walk you through them.

  • Where can I find my fridge’s model number?

    This will be found on the compliance plate; it's a small metal plate that's usually on the inside of the unit, often near the fruit and veg drawers or one of the internal walls. If it’s not there, check the sides or back of the fridge.

  • Do you deliver fridge seals?

    Absolutely. We ship custom fridge and freezer seals all over Australia. You can also pick up your order in-store in Kelvin Grove.

  • How quickly can I get my new seal?

    Common styles may be available for same-day pickup. Custom orders are usually ready within 2-4 business days.
